To make sparkling water at home in Lebanon, you need a soda maker, reusable bottles and a CO₂ cylinder. The Sodaology soda maker at Buyrouth is fully manual, so it works during power cuts, and one 60 L cylinder carbonates up to 60 litres of water. How a manual soda maker works

The CO₂ cylinder screws into the machine. You fill a bottle with water, fit it to the machine and press the button: each press releases CO₂ into the water. A few short presses give light bubbles, more presses give stronger fizz and use more gas. Then you unscrew the bottle and drink it plain or add fruit or a flavour. The Sodaology machine needs no electricity or batteries, and safety relief valves are fitted at the mouth and bottom of the bottle.

Which Sodaology pack to choose

All three packs contain the same machine (about 42 × 13 × 23 cm) and two reusable, BPA-free 850 mL bottles. The difference is the gas:

• Sodaology Sparkling Water & Soda Maker with Two Bottles ($119): no CO₂ cylinder. Choose it if you already own a screw-in cylinder.
• Soda Maker with Two Bottles + CO₂ Cylinder ($105): one cylinder, ready to use.
• Soda Maker + CO₂ Starter Bundle ($134): two 60 L cylinders, up to 120 litres before your first refill.

Spare bottles come as the Sodaology BPA Free Soda Water Bottle Set of 2 ($29). Their sealing cap lets you take a sip, close the bottle and keep the bubbles for later. Wash them by hand only.

CO₂ cylinders: what fits

The Sodaology 60 L CO₂ cylinder ($35) is an aluminium alloy cylinder with a double valve and a standard screw-in thread. According to the supplier, it holds food-grade CO₂ with no added chemicals, purity up to 99.9%, and it is compatible with soda makers from SodaStream, DrinkMate, Philips, Aarke and others.

It does not fit SodaStream Terra or Art machines. Those models use SodaStream's clip-in Quick Connect cylinder, not a screw-in one. If you aren't sure which type your machine takes, message us with a photo of the machine before you order.

The CO₂ refill service

A refill costs less than a new cylinder. Order the Refill Service CO₂ Bottle ($10) and Buyrouth will:

• pick up your empty CO₂ bottle (standard soda maker sizes);
• refill it with professional-grade CO₂;
• deliver the full bottle back to you.

At $10 for up to 60 litres, a refill works out at about $0.17 per litre at best (if you get the full 60 litres). Keep a second cylinder at home if you don't want to wait without bubbles while yours is being refilled.

Practical tips for bubbles

• Carbonate plain water first, then add fruit, juice or syrup.
• Press in short bursts and check the fizz between presses.
• More presses per bottle mean fewer litres per cylinder.
